“She had old friends at the former hospital and she wasn’t making friends here, and she was having a conflict with one LVN. I said, ‘You know, you should go out and have coffee with her and do a personal thing.’ They wound up playing golf, and they talked things out and got over things and she was happy as a clam. I ran into this Mentee in the cafeteria and she just said, ‘Thank you for the wonderful program because if it wasn’t for my Mentor I would’ve left.’

“I met him and asked if there was anything I could do to help him. He let me know he was working 14 hour days and felt he was working too hard and other nurses weren’t doing their jobs. He had other issues as well, so I met with him every day. I followed him for two weeks and I saw how wonderful he was with his bedside manner. I sat down and told him I could identify with him because my first six months were hell.”
